Cornwall Storms | Storm Ciaran at Porthleven
Storms have a unique and awe-inspiring beauty that can both thrill and terrify us. They remind us of the raw power of mother nature and demand respect. I have always loved storms and growing up near Porthleven as soon as one is forecast I am already there, waiting in anticipation as it rarely fails to impress and my god, Storm Ciaran was no exception as you can see below!
For those that were not as lucky as me and are not aware of Porthleven it’s typically a charming coastal village in Cornwall and a popular destination for storm photography due to its rugged shoreline and iconic clock tower. The combination of rocky cliffs, a historic harbour, and the relentless power of the Atlantic Ocean makes it a prime spot for capturing the rage and drama of a storm. There are several key vantage spots to viewing and photograph storms in relative safety but the more well known ones do get busy!
Photographing a storm, especially one as powerful as Storm Ciaran, is both challenging and exhilarating. It’s a reminder of our place in the natural world, where nature’s forces can be both majestic and destructive. With the right preparation, gear, and a deep respect for the elements, you can create striking images that convey the raw power and beauty of a storm. Porthleven, with its dramatic coastline and picturesque harbour, is a perfect stage for such a photographic adventure, but remember, safety should always be your top priority.
